Hjerpe, Wallace C., 79, of Edgewood, passed away Monday at home surrounded by his loving family.
"Wally" was the devoted husband of Patricia (Buckley) Hjerpe and the son of the late Carl E. and Emma J. (Karlsson) Hjerpe.
He was the brother of the late Thelma Campbell-Main and the uncle of the late Frank E. Campbell.
Born in Cranston in 1928, Wally served in the United States Army, Transportation Corps and was stationed in Greenland during the Korean War.
Wally Hjerpe was a lifelong resident of Edgewood, and was employed by the Leesona Corporation for 18 years. He was the owner of the Edgewood Garage, then Edgewood Service Center for thirty years.
Wally loved roller skating, frequenting the Sholes Hillsgrove Country Club until it closed. He met his beloved wife, Pat, during one of his skating adventures, and they recently celebrated their 57th. Wedding Aniversary.
He was also an avid boater. Cruising on his beloved "Sabina" with family and friends was his greatest pleasure.
Besides his wife he leaves a son; Carl E. Hjerpe and his wife Susan of Edgewood.
He is also survived by four grandchildren; Carl E., Bridget M., Eric W. and Michael P. Hjerpe, all of Edgewood, and a cousin; Edna Strom of Warwick.
Funeral Thursday at 9:00am from the Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St., at Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00am in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave. Warwick.
Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
