Sandra "Sandy" Cuddy Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” (Pettis) Cuddy, a devoted wife, mother and a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at the age of 78.

Sandy was born on May 9, 1947, to Frank and Jean Pettis in Providence, Rhode Island. She was a long-time resident of Pawtuxet Village and most recently resided in Cape Coral, FL. Her childhood was filled creating memories with siblings and friends throughout the Edgewood community. During summers boating on Narragansett Bay, she developed a lifelong passion for the water and appreciation for the coastal beauty of New England.

She was a graduate of Cranston High School East in 1965 and continued to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Rhode Island, a path that reflected her truly nurturing nature and love for children.

Sandy was the heart of her family—steadfast, kind, and endlessly loving. As a mother she gave selflessly, offering wisdom, reassurance and comforting support. Her love was evident in everyday moments, quiet sacrifices, and the way she always put her family first. Sandy was the anchor of her household providing unwavering stability, love and guidance. Her home was filled with warmth and laughter. Whether hosting a house full of joyful kids or an impromptu neighborhood gathering it was always a welcoming destination for all.

She had a gentle spirit and a generous heart evident in her love for animals and deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. A creative soul with a timeless sense of style, she possessed a graceful ability to curate comfort and kindness in any space. Her talents thrived with the joy she took in decorating miniature Christmas trees, designing wreaths, and sharing many other crafts with those closest to her.

She is survived by her husband, Michael A. Cuddy of Cape Coral, Florida; her children, Leonard Upham III (Diane), Janiece Upham Piechocki (Sean), Michael Cuddy Jr., and Peter Cuddy (Kristen); and her treasured grandchildren, Jake Piechocki, Nicholas Upham, Max Piechocki, Stella Cuddy, Cameron Cuddy, and Reese Cuddy, who carry her love as her greatest legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank C. Pettis, Jr. and Jean Brindle Pettis; her sister, Jean-Ann Sherry; and her brother, Frank C. “Skip” Pettis III.

Sandy had a true gift for making everyone feel welcome, loved and important. Her strength, compassion, and grace will continue to live on through those lives she touched. Her strong will and unconditional devotion to her family will forever be cherished. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, always.
