Ruth C. Stevenson, 91, of Cranston passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born on July 20, 1933 in Providence. She was the daughter of the late Craig and Charlotte (Kelsey) Houston. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce A. Stevenson. Ruth was also predeceased by her sister Anne W. Stiller. Ruth lived in the Edgewood section of Cranston for 70 years. She spent a lifetime of summers enjoying Whetstone pond in Maine at the family camp and considered that her happy place
Ruth graduated from Dean College with a degree in interior design in 1959 and was a dedicated stay at home mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader and she also loved crossword puzzles and game shows. Always the card shark, even in her final days she was beating everyone at Rummy 500.
She is survived by her children, Craig Stevenson and his wife Nancy, Charlotte Lynch and Martha W Trotta who will forever treasure her guidance and love. She also leaves her grandchildren, Aimee, Catherine, Louis, Samantha, Kelly and Michelle who were the light of her life and she delighted in their achievements and milestones. Ruth also leaves behind two great grandsons, Louis and Bode who brought her immense joy.
Ruth’s kindness and wisdom, sense of humor, infectious laughter and joyful presence will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and happiness will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Visitation will be at Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home on Broad Street in Cranston on Wednesday July 31st from 4-7 PM, with a church service on Thursday August 1st at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Transfiguration on Broad Street Street in Cranston. Burial will be private.
