Phyllis Leslie, 102, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023.
Phyllis was born and raised in Watford, England. In 1944, Phyllis married David Bunin, an American soldier who was stationed in her town during World War II. In 1945 she gave birth to their son Denis, and in 1946 she and Denis emigrated to America, settling with David in Croton, New York. In 1956 she gave birth to their second child, Bruce. David passed away in 1963, and in 1971 she married John Leslie of Ossining, New York. In 1981, they moved to Chatham, Massachusetts. In 2003, John passed away. In 2021, Phyllis moved to Brightview Commons in Wakefield, RI.
Though she remained a naturalized US citizen for the rest of her life, Phyllis was very proud of her British heritage: she made regular visits to her sister Beatrice in the UK, and made a point of serving a daily mid-afternoon tea. She was a lifelong fan of professional tennis, an expert bridge player, an extremely proficient dancer, and an impeccable dresser.
Phyllis is survived by her sister Beatrice Winfield of Barnt Green, England, with whom she telephoned every Saturday; her sons, Denis Bunin of Exeter, RI, and Bruce Bunin of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her daughter-in-law Maribel Bunin; her grandchildren Keith Bunin, Kristin Poshkus, Nicholas Bunin, and Evan Bunin; and her great-grandchildren, Nate Poshkus, Anika Poshkus, and Myles Bunin.
