Peter Herbert Vanasse, 84 of Cranston, RI passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Born March 1, 1940 in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Bonaventure & Mary Vanasse, brother of the late Roland & Joseph Vanasse, Edward “Butch” Vanasse, Ann Golderesi (who he enjoyed cooking and creating delicious recipes with), and Diane Guisti. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol Vanasse (Deslauriers), his daughter Kim Vanasse Forrest and her husband Ed of Greensboro, NC, his daughters Dale Vanasse and Tracy Vanasse Cherico of Cranston, RI, and his son Peter Vanasse Jr. and wife Melinda of Charlotte, NC. He leaves behind his grandchildren Kristin Zei, Tina SanSouci, Michael Vanasse, Crystal James, Carol Cherico, Joseph Cherico, Heather Wakefield, & Danielle Vanasse, as well as his great grandchildren Alijah, Kal-el, Gianna, Roman, Colton, and Oliver.
Peter attended Central High School after which he joined the U.S. Army. Following his honorable service, he went on to work and retired from Brunca Waterproofing Local 1 Brick Layers Union after 50 years. After retiring, Peter and his wife Carol would spend many years traveling back and forth to North Carolina to spend time with their children and grandchildren who relocated.
Peter was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. His work ethic and drive to ensure his family was provided for was unmatched. After a long day of work he would come home to pursue his passion for cooking and spending time with his family. He had a natural attraction from all animals as they could sense his gentle and compassionate demeanor. He was known for his pristine ‘57 Chevy Bel-Air, which he won many car show awards for throughout the years. Peter and his wife Carol enjoyed many cruise nights in their antique car accompanied by his best friend Louie and his wife Carol. He was an avid bowler, softball player, fisherman, card player, mechanic, and gardener. He enjoyed watching sports mainly NASCAR and football, but more than anything he loved spending time with his family and making everyone laugh.
Services will be private for immediate family only. Please send all condolences to Peter & Carol’s Cranston, RI residences that they have lived in for over 50 years and have shared many memories with the family they created.
