Babcock, Paul, “Box” 84, was called to eternal rest on November 6, 2014. He was husband of the late Rose Amitrano (DiMaria).
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Grace (Miner) Babcock. Mr. Babcock was employed as a Sheriff with the R.I. State Superior Court until his retirement in 1995. Paul was a very active and devoted member of St. Bartholomew Church where he had served in many capacities. His daily Mass attendance was a testament to his faith and served as an example of his devotion and humility. He was also a very generous man who supported many charitable organizations. He was the embodiment of generosity to all who knew him, often giving freely and without hesitation. The only thing greater than his generosity was his love and devotion to his family. Paul was an avid sports fan who enjoyed many spectator sports but none more than his beloved Red Sox. Hence his nickname “Box”.
He was the father of Gary J. Amitrano of East Greenwich, Geraldine Asher of Pawtucket, and the late John T. Amitrano. Mr. Babcock also delighted in the joy of his 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece Deborah Brayton, and his nephews, Stephen and Gregory McDermott as well as his daughter in law Loriann Bose. He was predeceased by his sister Audrey A. McDermott and his brother Harry S. Babcock.
His funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00am from the Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St. at Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church, 297 Laurel Hill Ave., Providence, at 10:00am. Burial will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery, Cumberland, RI.
Calling Hours will be on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Bartholomew Church.
