Norma Altagracia (Luna) Aybar, age 85, of Providence, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 3, 2015. Norma was born on January 22, 1930 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to the late Ernesto and Maria Celeste (Rodriguez) Luna. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her delicious rice and empanadas. Norma also enjoyed music, dancing, singing karaoke, playing bingo and watching her favorite telenovelas.
On May 30, 1948, Norma married the love of her life, the late Erotides A. Aybar, in Santo Domingo. They were married for 66 years. Together they relocated to the United States, and eventually to Providence, where many of their beloved friends and family members still reside.
Norma leaves 2 Children and their spouses: her son, Ernie ("Yoti") Aybar and his wife, Linda; daughter, Norma ("Normita") Newell and her husband, Joe; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Aybar, Aidan Newell and Patrick Newell; as well as many loving nieces, nephew, and other relatives and friends. She is survived by her sisters, Nixtrocris Melo, Lerida Luna, Mabel Luna; and was the sister of the late Dora Pujois, Iris Cruz, Rafael Luna, Ramon Luna, Ariel Luna, and Tamarquis Luna.
Calling Hours will be held at Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St.at Park Ave., Cranston, RI from 4:00 to 8:00 on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence, RI at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Burial will follow at North Burial Ground Cemetery in Providence, RI.
