Mary Patricia “Patty” Hogan
March 17, 1956-February 2, 2026
To know Mary Patricia Hogan, loved by all as “Patty,” was to learn what’s most important. Patty moved through the world at her own pace, and in doing so, she taught everyone around her how to take in what matters most: time with family, laughs with friends, and music that moves you. Her life was a lesson in patience and being present.
Patty passed away on February 2, 2026 in Providence, RI, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in 1956 on St. Patrick’s Day to the late Barbara and John “Jack” Hogan, she was the proud eldest of seven children in a deeply rooted Irish American family. Raised in Edgewood, RI, Patty was a brilliant student, an incredible listener, and someone who people naturally gravitated towards for an ear to listen and a feeling of steadiness in today's fast-paced world.
At just 19 years old, Patty’s world changed forever. While an accident altered the trajectory of her life, it never took away who she was at her core: witty, smart, empathetic, and a woman with unmatched musicality. If Patty was bilingual, music was her second language. Long before the accident, she was an accomplished pianist, and throughout her life she continued to express herself through piano, song lyrics, and her unwavering devotion to music and its creators—especially Michael Bolton.
Patty’s life required extraordinary resilience. She had to relearn how to communicate and to navigate daily tasks. But what defined her was not what she lost, rather what she gained and generously shared, like her quiet strength and resilience. Conversations with Patty might have taken longer, but that slowness became a gift. With her, you lingered longer in the music, savored meals more deeply, and learned to sit comfortably in the moment. She loved her weekly hair and nail appointments, listening to soft rock on the music channel, and sipping iced coffee.
For years, Patty spent winters in Clearwater, FL with her parents, and summers by the Hogan pool in Edgewood watching her nieces and nephews grow. Patty loved sitting in the sun, listening to the radio, writing lyrics, wearing the most stylish sunglasses, while taking in all the fun chaos around her.
Patty lived the last two decades of her life at Cherry Hill Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Johnston, RI where she found not only exceptional care, but a caring and loving community. Her family is endlessly grateful to the devoted staff who treated Patty with dignity, compassion, and love. In particular, her beloved Lori, who shared a beautiful sisterly bond with Patty, far more than a caregiver—she was her best friend.
Patty’s faith in God was steadfast throughout her life. Her struggles have taught us about bravery, courage, love, patience, perseverance, and family devotion.
Patty leaves behind her beloved siblings: Kathleen Hogan Byrne (Jim), Michael Hogan (Kim), Susan Saillant (Dennis), John Jack Hogan (Diane), Barbara Rios (Peter), and Thomas Hogan (Lalania). Patty had many other beloved members in her extended family, including Mary Ellen Hogan and she was a proud aunt to 13 nieces and nephews and nearly two dozen great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom brought her immense joy. She is now reunited with her parents and her beloved late niece, Stephanie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 11:30 am at St. Paul’s Church, 1 Warwick Ave., Cranston (Edgewood). Calling hours at Jones-Walton-Sheraton Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St., Cranston on Saturday, 9:00 -11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Cherry Hill Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund, Johnston, in gratitude for their exceptional care.
Patty’s legacy lives on in the way we slow down, listen more closely, and open our hearts a little wider–just as she always did.
