John J. Gunson Jr.

John J Gunson, 89, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022, surrounded by his family in his home of 53 years in Cranston, RI.  He was the loving husband of Donna M Gunson for over 67 years.   John had 6 children and 12 grandchildren.

John was born in Watertown, NY and moved to Vallejo, CA in his early teens. He enlisted in the Navy Reserves at age 17 and then re-enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. 

He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology as a classically trained Furniture Designer.  Several years later he earned a Master’s degree from the University of Connecticut.  His teaching career started at Aldrich Junior High School and included several years at The Rhode Island School of Design, ultimately leading him to a long tenure as the Director of Vocational Education in Warwick where he retired in 1990. 

John was often seen riding his bicycle around the streets of Edgewood.  His great passions were a good trip to the library, his O’Day sailboat on the bay and the New York Yankees!
