Joao “John” Carlos Silva, 65, passed away on April 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 3, 1960, in São Miguel, Azores, John lived a full life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to the people he held dear. He made his home in Cranston, Rhode Island, where he built a life full of family, friendships, and lasting memories.
John was a devoted husband, a proud father, a cherished papa, a caring brother, and a true friend to many. He leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy Silva, with whom he built a lifetime of memories and love. He is also survived by his three children: Jennifer Silva-Sukys (Robert Sukys), John Silva (Jordan Silva), and Brandon Silva (Dylan Fox). Nothing brought John more joy than being “Papa” to his grandchildren, his beloved “Pretty Girls”: Taylor Sukys (Seth Miller), Ella Gillheeney, Chloe Silva, and Harper Silva. He is preceded in passing by his parents, Antonio DaSilva and Leonor DeAlmeida, his parents-in-law, William and Aldona Cook, his two sisters, Maria “Pacheco” and Maryann (Kenneth) and two brothers Joe (Vicki) and Gino (Robin). He leaves behind his two sisters, Connie (Ron) and MaryLou (Emilio), and three brothers, Manuel (Sylvia), Tony (Sheila), and Luis (Brenda), and his beloved niece MJ.
John was a hardworking man through and through. He spent over 30 years as a dedicated truck driver, navigating roads all across New England with pride. John was a man of humor and heart. He could brighten any room with his infectious laugh, his classic phrases like “Aye Boo Boo” and “How ya like me now” and the kind of presence that made everyone feel at home. He was a hardworking man who never hesitated to put his family first—reliable, humble, and always ready to help.
A loyal New England Patriots fan, Sundays were sacred football days in the Silva house. He also enjoyed relaxing with episodes of Law & Order: SVU, a show he watched faithfully. His love extended beyond people to his precious dogs—Kingston, Koko, and Henry—who were always close by and deeply adored.
John’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and quiet strength. He will be missed deeply and remembered always by those who were lucky enough to know him.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the family and friends who helped and supported us through this difficult time especially, Louann, Pam, Marilyn, and Pamie.
Rest easy, John. Your love continues in all of us.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Thursday, April 24th from 8-10 am at Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St. at Park Ave. in Cranston with a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Paul’s Church in Cranston, where family and friends are invited to honor a truly special man.
