James F. Siddall, 93, of Cranston, passed away July 27, 2025 at R.I. Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the husband of Claire (Warnock) Siddall.
Born in Providence a son of the late Lynton and Cecelia (Heaney) Siddall.
He was the father of James and wife Michelle Siddall of Smithfield, Jane and her husband Tony Marsella of Cumberland, Joseph and his wife Laurie Siddall of Rehoboth, MA and Janet Siddall of Worcester, MA, He was the grandfather of Anthony Marsella, Kristin Marsella, Alex Siddall, Eric Siddall, Hope Siddall, Rachel Siddall, and Jessica Siddall.
Jim was born in Providence on June 14, 1932. He attended Tyler school, followed by
LaSalle Academy, where he graduated in 1950, achieving honors all four years.
He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in Korea, in the 7th Infantry, on the
front lines, until the time of cease fire. He rose from the rank of Private to Sergeant. He
earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service
Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and, most important to him, the Combat
infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
Jim married Claire in 1957 and lived in Cranston until the final couple of years, when he
resided at the Rhode Island Veterans Home. He worked for the Narragansett Electric
Co for 43 years, until his retirement. It was during this time that Jim was helping to raise
his four children along with Claire. Jim logged many miles chauffeuring all four to just
about every hockey rink in RI and MA, but it was never a chore for him as he got
immense joy from watching all of them play.
After retirement, Jim liked to travel to events with Claire. He particularly liked his annual
trips to Saratoga Racetrack, along with his trip to Churchill Downs. They attended the
Frozen Four hockey tournament for 20 consecutive years. They celebrated the
beginning of the new century by attending the Tournament of Roses Parade in
Pasadena. Jim loved parades. He frequently attended both the Bristol and Gaspee Days parades. He was on the Gaspee Days committee for several years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St Paul’s Council, as well as the
Pawtuxet Athletic Club. He served on the board of the Edgewood Little League and
was also involved with the Edgewood Hockey Association. He was the Cranston
harbormaster for several years. He was proud to participate in and be recognized on a Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2018. Jim could be spotted frequently at his grandchildren hockey, baseball, softball, lacrosse, volleyball and field hockey games, as well as many dance recitals and competitions. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins. He was particularly fond of his autographed baseball signed by his all time favorite player Ted Williams, as well as the autographed photo of him and Claire with Bobby Orr.
Funeral Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St. at Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM celebrated at St. Paul’s Church, 1 Warwick Ave., Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be held at R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI
