Avery Jr., Edwin G., 84, passed away on 12/01/2021 in Cheyenne, WY. Ed was born In Providence and was the eldest son of the late Edwin G. and Evelyn A. (Londry) Avery Sr. Ed grew up in Cranston and lived most of his adult life in Warwick. He also resided in South Florida for several years prior to retiring to Cheyenne, WY.
Ed served in many civic organizations throughout his career. He served on The Warwick Chamber of Commerce, President, Rotary Club of Providence, President and Executive Secretary, Warwick Rotary Club, Board of Directors, Kent County Retardation Center, Treasurer, Kent County YMCA, Treasurer, Warwick Museum, Treasurer, Warwick Mall Merchants Association, President and Ed was inducted into The Warwick Hall of Fame. Ed served the United Way of Southeastern NE as a loaned Staff member from Citizens Bank for three fundraising campaigns.
Ed served on the Warwick Board of Public Safety; Warwick Police and Fire Committees; Board of Directors of the Boca Raton Rotary Club. In Cheyenne, WY, in retirement he served on the Mayor’s Council for People with Disabilities; Wyoming Senior Companions; Parish Council of the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Mary’s, and The Cheyenne Housing Authority.
Ed was the Endorsed Republican Candidate for Mayor of Warwick (1978) and the Endorsed Republican Candidate for Warwick City Council (1972).
Ed’s professional career consisted of GMAC, RI; Citizen’s Bank, AVP; Catholic Foundation of RI, Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence; Dominican Friars Guild, Director of Planned Giving, NY; J&W University, Assistant Professor and Executive Administrator. Founder and CEO of NE Health Food Co., and Real Estate Broker Ft. Lauderdale. Ed also completed the Theological Program sponsored by the Ministry Institute/ Providence College where upon completion he was commissioned a Roman Catholic Lay Minister. Ed was also known as very endearing, and his record indicates he enjoyed serving people in many different capacities.
Ed is survived by siblings: Dennis G. Avery of Albuquerque, NM; Gregory W. Avery of Largo, FL; Shirley A. Cicero of FL; and the late Richard Avery and Catherine Holda. Also survived by his loving daughter Shelley P. Flaherty and husband Joe, of RI and son Edwin G. Avery IV, M.D., and wife Lauren of OH and Grandchildren Rose and Hope Flaherty and Sophia and Edwin Avery V.
Funeral, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 9:00 AM from the Jones–Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St. at Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul, 30 Fenner St., Providence, RI at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Johnston, RI
