David George Hamblin, 96, died at the Scandinavian Home in Cranston on Monday, December 1. He lived a long, healthy life and was deeply loved by his family and friends.
David was born on February 8, 1929, in Providence to Louise Mahony Hamblin and Kenneth Hamblin. The third of five children, he was predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth, Louise Falvey, John, and RIchard.
He was a proud Marine although he never had to serve in combat. He graduated from University of Rhode Island and spent his working career as a salesman for various chemical companies. He married Mary Sullivan in 1955 and they shared over 50 years together before her passing in 2006. They bought their home on Kneeland Street in Cranston in 1960 and he lived there until he entered the Scandinavian Home in 2024.
He enjoyed his family and friends. His greatest attributes were loyalty and love. He was a good listener, offered sound advice, and was always there to help. He had a great sense of humor and a kind spirit and he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his only child, Kate Cricco, her husband, Robert; his grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Allison; and Maria Plummer and her husband Sean and his great grandchildren, Adelaide and James. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Meredith and her wife Charity and their children Olafur, Finnur, and Ax; and Jeff and his wife Amanda and their children August and Cora. He leaves behind his special friend Marie Hynes and numerous nieces and nephews, especially John Falvey and Kenny Hamblin, who made a special effort to keep in touch with him always.
The family would like to thank the Scandinavian Home for their wonderful care during the last two years.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the RI Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Tr., Exeter, RI
