Long, Bernard E. (Bernie), 86, of Cranston, passed away peacefully, January 16, 2021 at Scandinavian Home. He was the beloved husband of Marion (Powers) Long.
Born in Providence, the son of the late Bernard and Margaret (Scanlon) Long, he was a lifelong Cranston resident. After graduating from Cranston High School East, he served in the United States Navy. He was a supervisor for the United States Postal Service, past President of Providence Postal Credit Union, past President of the Gaspee Days Committee and member of the Pawtuxet Athletic Club.
Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Sharon Alves (Manny) and Maureen Tyson (Stephen), and a son Bernard Long (Shirley). He was father of the late Jeanine Thompson (Joseph). He was grandfather of Cailin Thompson, Colleen DiGregorio (Jason), and Miranda and Riley Long. He was great grandfather of Riley Digregorio and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Church of Edgewood, 1 Warwick Avenue, Cranston, RI 02905. A live stream of this service will be available at www.facebook/saintpaulcranston. Burial at RI Veterans Cemetery will be private.
