Dorothy J. Murray, 97, of Modena Avenue, passed into the arms of angels on Thursday, January 23rd. at Briarcliffe Manor. She was the wife of the late William J. Murray, they had been married for 59 years.
Born in Riverside, she was the youngest of nine children of the late George B. Massey and Louise (Papineau) Massey.
She was an employee of the Outlet Company and the Internal Revenue Service. She and Bill married shortly after his return from serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, and they shared a wonderful life together.
Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of Hope High School. She devoted her time fundraising with school activities, bazaars, bake sales, etc. at St. Edward School, Providence, where her 4 children attended. She loved spending time with her family and her many pets, especially her dogs Jodi, Mitzy and Benji. She spent many summer days at the ocean with her family, and after beach barbecues at her daughter's home in Narragansett. She was a lover of all animals. She and Bill enjoyed making Sunday dinner for their four children and grandchildren.
She was a communicant of St. Augustine Church.
She was very generous with her donations to the American Cancer Society, St. Joseph Indian School, Providence Animal Rescue League, SPCA and many more.
Dorothy leaves behind four children; Donna J. Haggerty of Cranston, William J. Murray, Jr. of North Providence, Suzanne M. Hurley of North Providence and Kathleen L. Duchesneau of Warwick, 8 grandchildren; Stephanie, Kristen, Shannon, Caitlin, Jennifer, David, and Christopher. Also 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was also the grandmother of the late Kimberly J. Peso. She was the sister of the late Stella, Ellen, Louise, William, Clifford, George, Joseph, and Louis.
Funeral Tuesday at 9:00 am from Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St., at Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 am at St. Matthew Church, 1299 Elmwood Ave, Cranston.Burial at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI
Visitation Tuesday Morning from 8:30 - 9:30 am.
