Charles “Chuck” Edward Mello, 79, Cranston, RI died unexpectedly on April 4, 2017 in Providence, RI.
Chuck was born in Providence to the late Edward and Margaret (Ferreira) Mello. On October 12, 1957 he married The Reverend Iris Elaine (Morton) Mello, his high school sweetheart. He was a graduate of East Providence High School, class of 1955 and Salve Regina University, with an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. Together they raised four children in the Edgewood neighborhood of Cranston, RI.
Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps and worked at the Adult Correctional Institution. Chuck was active in the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island, and was a loyal fan of the Patriots, Red Sox and his eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There wasn’t a joke at which Chuck wouldn’t laugh, or a meal he wouldn’t finish. Chuck is survived by his wife, his brother, Bruce Mello of Oakland, CA., his children Beverly Melfi (Nicholas) and Steven Mello of Cranston and The Reverend Jeffrey Mello (Paul Daigneault) of Brookline, MA, his sister-in-law Beverly (Morton) Vale and nephew Kenneth Vale of Cranston. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory Mello.
Funeral Friday at 10:00AM from the Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St. at Park Ave., Cranston, RI, followed by a service of Christian Burial at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pawtuxet, Cranston, RI on Friday, April 7 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be held at Spring Vale Cemetery, Rumford, RI
Visitation will be held Thursday 4:00-7:00 PM
