Judith Wholey Spencer Obituary

Judith Wholey Spencer, born August 29, 1933 in Providence, RI, passed peacefully on Monday, February 27. The daughter of Edgar J. Wholey and Ruth (Mackie) Wholey. Judith graduated from St. Xavier Academy in Providence and Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt., in 1953. Judith was a resident of Warwick for over 50 years.

An avid lover of the great outdoors, she participated on the equestrian team at college where she accumulated several ribbons from local competitions.  She also figure skated at the Providence FSC and summered in Lake Placid to further sharpen her skills. One of her favorite stories was when two-time Olympian, Dick Button, playfully tossed her into Mirror Lake fully clothed!

She worked as a bookkeeper in her father’s business, Wholey Boiler Company after college. Later in life when her children were grown, she taught figure skating at The Skating club of RI. and the New Bedford FSC. She was a board member of Skate for Joy for several years. Another entrepreneurial stint was owning a limousine company, Spencer for Hire.

She is survived by her three children, Patti Spencer of Narragansett, RI., Edwin “Teddy” Spencer of Warwick, RI., and Carolyn Drumm (husband James) of Jamestown, RI. She was affectionately called “Grandubba” by her five grandchildren; Brandi, Kaena, Robbie, James, and Christina. She also leaves three great-grandchildren; Spencer, Kelsey, and Sofia all of who reside in RI. Judith was also the sister of  Edgar J. Wholey (deceased) of Chepachet, RI., and leaves several nieces and nephews.

Judy could belt out a show tune with the best of them. Her rendition of Danny Boy with the Glen Jordan Orchestra at her daughter’s wedding  is a fond memory for all who attended the festivities at Alpine CC back in 1989.  The family hopes Judy is crashing a wedding in heaven as the lead singer while reuniting with loved ones.

Her funeral and burial at Swan Point will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Potter League for Animals..Please visit:JWSFH.COM
