James L. "Jim" Sheridan, 61, of Narragansett passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at R.I. Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Providence, Jim was the son of the late Arthur T. and Anne L. (Lally) Sheridan. He is survived by his brother Arthur T. Sheridan, Jr. and his wife Martha, and his sister Patricia J Sheridan. He was the loving uncle of Connor, Victoria, Paige, Dillon, and Liam Sheridan. Jim was an attorney in private practice in Narragansett where he also served as the town’s Probate Judge for many years. He graduated from Classical High School in Providence in 1979 where he was the class salutatorian, and a talented actor and musician. Music would remain a passion and vital part of Jim’s life. Following high school, he received his bachelor's degree from Yale University and his JD from the University of Virginia where he was named to the law review. After spending several years in Los Angeles and New York practicing law he returned to Rhode Island and joined the law practice of Edwards and Angell in Providence before starting his own firm in Narragansett. Jim was actively involved in his parish, St. Veronica, and was dedicated to the church’s music ministry where he developed lifelong friendships and became a fixture at weekend services. He was generous with his time, talent, and treasure providing advice and guidance to many, and oftentimes making anonymous donations to a variety of causes, particularly to those in need during the holiday season. Jim was devoted to his family, particularly his sister and her sons, having played a vital role in the upbringing of his nephews Connor and Dillon. In fact, many in the community lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Jim.” Jim touched many lives with his brilliance, humor, talent, and kindness. He will be greatly missed.
