Irene (Stefanik) Bunin

BUNIN, Irene, Age 77, of Exeter, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23, 2021.

She was the wife of Denis Bunin, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. 

Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Stefanik. 

She received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Oswego and her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Marist College. She lived for many years in Poughkeepsie NY, before retiring to Sandwich MA, The Villages FL, and finally Exeter RI.  

She was a public elementary school teacher in both Yorktown Heights and Poughkeepsie. She also worked as an administrator at the American Heart Association, the Astor Home for Children, and Vassar College. 

Her avocations included photography and poetry, she performed in many community theater productions, and she was a licensed foot reflexologist. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Keith Bunin of Brooklyn, her daughter Kristin Poshkus of Cranston, her son-in-law Michael Poshkus, and her grandchildren Nate and Anika Poshkus. She was the sister of Dorothy Stefanik Appleton, Jean Stefanik Miller, and the late Richard Stefanik.
