Edward J. Barron

Edward James Barron surrounded by his family and angels, passed away peacefully on November 14th, at the age of 87.

He is survived by his wife Marie Donalda (Poirier) Barron, his daughter Lisa Marie Barron Bathgate, husband Andy Bathgate, and his cherished grandchildren, Lindsey Bathgate Cavanagh, (husband Erik) and Andrew Bathgate, his great-grandchildren Jack and Lyla-Rae Cavanagh.

Eddy was the son of the late Pierce and Helen (Nawrocki) Barron.  Brother of the late Helen Lightowler, and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He grew up in Providence in the Florence Street area where the neighborhood was lined with family, friends, and many memories.  He had served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1958. He was very proud of the American flag and what it stood for.

Upon marrying Marie, they moved to Connecticut. During this time period, his daughter Lisa was born. In addition to his day job, he worked as a bartender at the Keystone, became a president of the Jaycees where he and the chapter were instrumental in hosting the Miss America Pageant of 1965. Eddy and his family returned back to Rhode Island and settled in Warwick. He was employed by the Warwick Fire Department as a dispatcher. He served his community until his retirement. 

Some of his favorite pastimes were: A little bit of travel (Florida/Old Orchard Beach/Block Island), spending time with friends at local establishments, and most of all being involved in his grandchildren's lives, showing them how to make "Awesomes", rides to schools, visiting the carousel, feeding the ducks and being a staple at soccer games for Lindsey and hockey for Andrew. He also quickly became a friend and a GPA for the sports family. His involvement carried on with Jack and Lyla.

Many good times were had at the "Summer House" in Pawtuxet. Eddie was a Gold Member of the Pawtuxet Athletic Club. He was also a full-fledged member of the Bottomline "One More Club." He absolutely loved taking his family out to the Inn, Cora's County Cork, and Judy's. Eddy had a love of musicals (Hello Dolly/My Fair Lady) and music. Songs from the '40s. '50's & '60's line his portfolio. “That's Life” by Frank Sinatra was his favorite. 

Saint Patrick's Day, was his favorite holiday. However, if you knew him, any reason to celebrate no matter how big or small was embraced and enjoyed. His smile was warming, his jokes funny, his words of wisdom to the point. Eddy was a loving husband, great dad, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He is loved and will be greatly missed.

Funeral  Thursday at 9:00 AM from The Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad St. at Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Ave., Warwick 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be held at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI

Calling hours Wednesday 4:00-7:00 PM

A Celebration of his life will be held at the Pawtuxet Athletic Club, 12 Aborn St., Cranston, RI, immediately following services.
