OMER W. BLANCHETTE

   Blanchette, Omer W., 84, of Chepachet passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Thursday, March 30th., at The Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

   He was the husband of the late Joanne Blanchette, until her passing in 2013.  Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alcide and Eledia (Paquin) Blanchette.  He had lived in the Chepachet section of Glocester for many years.

   Omer was ordained a priest in the Society of Mary (Marists) in 1960 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.  During his time with the Order he taught in Detroit and Maine.  He left the Marists in 1970 to begin his new vocation; that of a husband and father, and later a grandfather.  A calling he embraced joyfully and at which he excelled.  

   A man who loved God, and who lived his faith on a daily basis, he was also well known as being a staunch defender for the rights of the unborn.

   He is survived by a daughter; Amy K. Gubala (Aaron), and sons; Matthew T. Blanchette (Michelle) both of Pawtucket and Todd A. (Cindy) of New Bedford, MA, he was the brother of Clare Berube and the late Robert Blanchette.  He was also the loving Pepere of Aidan, Colin, Jared Blanchette, Aaron C. Jr., Augustin R. and the late Asher Jacob Gubala.

   He was also a loved and cherished friend to many. 

   His life will be celebrated with calling hours on Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 22, at a time to be announced in St. Eugene Church, 1247 Putnam Pike, Glocester (Chepachet), burial will be private.
